Self-proclaimed "birth keeper" and social media influencer impersonates health care provider with deadly consequences
Heather Baker, a Wisconsin-based, self-professed midwife, is administering misoprostol, the abortion drug, as an induction agent without consent, most recently causing the death of a baby in April 2024.
Due to the unpredictability and often severe response to misoprostol, it is universally regarded as unsafe for use at home inductions. It is known to cause fetal hypoxia, uterine rupture, abruption and more. It also impairs a woman's decision-making capabilities, essentially "roofie-ing" them.
14 women currently report Baker using misoprostol to induce labour without their knowledge/informed consent. All 14 women’s accounts demonstrate adverse effects of malpractice and negligence. These stand among many other instances of reckless negligence causing poor outcomes and near-fatal birth complications, as detailed in a recent Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article exposing Heather Baker's malpractice.
A letter (viewable below), authored by a group of experienced midwives, outlines Heather Baker’s malpractice/failure of care.
Though lacking any verifiable training or credentials, Heather Baker has written at least four books on home birth and free birth (all available on Amazon; see concerned reviews below) and purports to be a licensed authority on the subject. In actuality, she is not licensed to practice midwifery in Wisconsin, as evidenced by a founded 2014 DSPS complaint #13 UNL 038 (RMA) and an open 2024 DSPS investigation. Until the recent death, Baker had continued to provide travelling "midwife" services and still continues to offer “virtual” birth support from Wisconsin, taking on high-risk births (twin/breech) in states like Montana, where she is likewise prohibited from practicing midwifery. One community she has repeatedly targeted is in Sayulita, Nay. Mexico, where she is known to have administered misoprostol to induce labour in multiple births with tragic outcomes.
From the Wisconsin Guild of Midwifery:
"Our committee considers Ms. Baker to be practicing midwifery and medicine without a license, and is misleading the public thereby putting expectant families at great risk."
